Pelosi Slams Bill That Would Allow Concealed Carry Across State Lines

Pelosi says “NO!” to bill that may make it easier for gun owners to legally carry concealed across state lines

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi slammed the Republican bill ahead of a House vote due up later this week.

Plus she even accused Republicans of doing the bidding of the NRA!

“Far from making Americans safer, this… bill would make it legal for more dangerous and untrained people to carry loaded, hidden guns in more public places,” Pelosi said in a statement.

Gun-rights advocates scored a major win with House passage of legislation making concealed-carry gun permits valid across state lines — but face a much tougher challenge in the Senate.

Bill-backers of “concealed-carry reciprocity” argue they are trying to improve a jumble of laws from local jurisdictions that confuse legal issues for gun-carrying travelers. And they point out that the bill would NOT put state laws under a federal umbrella law or cut background checks.

“This vote marks a watershed moment for Second Amendment rights,” said Chris W. Cox of the NRA’s legislative affairs group.

The bill passed in the House 231-198 last week, with six House Democrats (Nancy Pelosi definitely not one of them!) voting in support.

Texas GOP Sen. John Cornyn, who is sponsoring the companion Senate measure, stated: “I support the constitutional carry, because I view it kind of like a driver’s license,” he told several news outlets before the successful House vote.

Republicans said the bill would allow gun owners to travel freely without worrying about conflicting state laws or civil suits. It even strengthens the FBI database of prohibited gun buyers after the Air Force failed to report the criminal history of the Texas Church gunman.

If the concealed-carry bill is approved by the House and Senate and signed into law, key state and local laws protecting against gun violence could be overridden, Pelosi said, “inviting concealed weapons into schools, churches, bars and public lands.”
